Jay Z drops surprise album exploring challenges of "marrying out of your league"

NEW YORK -- Jay Z shocked the world last night by releasing a new album entitled, Self-Hating Male Feminist, his first record in five years. The album was made immediately available for download to Tidal's four subscribers. According to Rolling Stone, listeners report that Jay Z's latest album explores the subtle violence of male identity and the psychological turmoil men experience upon marrying "out of your league."

Singles include "Forgive Me Bee" and "Why I Take Escalators." The album is dedicated to "First Gentleman Bill Clinton and male consorts across the world."

Long-time Tidal defender New York Times critic Wesley Morris gave the album high marks, saying that Jay Z's latest offering is "a fraught response to Beyonce's irreducible Lemonade that thematically oscillates from defensiveness, to male entitlement, to self-laceration," and credits Jay Z with a period of "clear personal and artistic maturation since the homosocial excitement of Magna Carta Holy Grail."
