First Granddaughter, Charlotte, wins kindergarten's Feminist Historian Award for a 73-word biography entitled, “Grandma”

NEW YORK -- On Thursday, New York City's Morningside Montessori School announced that President Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 5-year-old granddaughter, Charlotte, had won the kindergarten's coveted Feminist Historian Award after submitting a 73-word biography for Tuesday's homework assignment, entitled, "Grandma."

English teacher Jaquita Taylor said Charlotte's homework assignment was "a thrilling story about good and evil featuring a strong female protagonist."

"Usually, 5-year-olds' attempts at non-fiction are somewhat boring, especially when kids write about their family members. I see a lot of, 'my brother Tommy stole my fish,' or 'I was sad when my daddy left my mommy for my new daddy.' But this was absolutely electric," she said.

In "Grandma," Charlotte tells the tale of a young lawyer who dedicates herself to feminism and the fight for racial equality at a time when women had almost no academic, professional, economic opportunity. She goes on to champion women's rights, break glass ceilings, and move to a new White House after beating a "very bad man" by 3 million votes.

According to Taylor, Charlotte dedicates "Grandma" to "all the little girls out there with big dreams.”

White House Press Secretary Leslie Jones told reporters that President Clinton is "extremely proud of her granddaughter."
