“Creepy” billionaire Betsy DeVos turned away from D.C. public school: “Literally no reason she should be here”
WASHINGTON D.C. -- Betsy DeVos unsettled parents, school children and teachers on Thursday when the "creepy" billionaire showed up at a D.C. public school and proceeded to randomly linger in the play yard until the principal "finally asked her to leave," according to The Washington Post.
The district superintendent, Craig Little, said the episode both inexplicable and upsetting, noting, “there is literally no reason why she should be here.” He pointed out that DeVos does not live in D.C, and has no children currently—or for that matter, ever—who have ever attended a public school, let alone one in D.C.
“I don’t like to read sinister intent into things,” said Little, “but really guys—why would she show up here? It was scary.”
Jennifer Oliver, a seventh-grader at Jefferson Middle School Academy, was perplexed. “There was this lady banging on the door, demanding to be let in. It was kind of sad, really. We weren’t sure what was going on.”
DeVos later tweeted “My deepest apologizes [sic] for the disturbance I caused today.” She could not be reached for comment.
